ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Developmental Specialist helps to provide the best possible learning environment for children. This includes:

RELATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Support mission statement, guiding principles and school philosophy

STRATEGIC/OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Support, encourage and provide training for early childhood classroom staff in inclusion practices
  • Support and guide parents regarding behavior concerns and developmental milestones
  • Support, guide and provide resources for parents of children with special needs
  • Support individual student needs and developmentally appropriate practices within the program
  • Collaborate with families, school staff, and outside professionals to meet student needs
  • Meet COTW and licensing requirements for in-service training and professional growth

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood or special education or related field
  • Five years of experience in early childhood special education
  • Committed Christian

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job requires bending, sitting, reaching, standing, lifting, and crawling.

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Reports to: Director of Children of The Woodlands
  • Position Type: Part time, not to exceed 15 hours per week
  • Schedule: Available to work a flexible schedule during school hours (Monday –Thursday, 9am -2pm); not to exceed 15 hours per week
  • Compensation: Dependent on experience
  • Benefits: Not eligible for benefits

Create and maintain a classroom setting that meets accreditation expectations and/or minimum standards. Must be a committed Christian comfortable sharing their faith with children and families.

RELATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Support mission statement, guiding principles and school philosophy
  • Provide the best possible learning environment for children assigned to the class, and to work for the best interests of the school
  • Create and maintain a classroom setting that meets accreditation expectations and/or minimum standards
  • Arrive in time to have classroom ready and be prepared for students before devotion time each day
  • Cooperate with Sunday morning teachers and others who share the room
  • Cooperate with the Director of Preschool and other staff in those activities involving the whole program
  • Inform an administrator in cases of unreasonable behavior, parent complaints, or other problems which should be handled by administration in the best interest of the school

STRATEGIC/OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Make daily plans in keeping with the philosophy of the program and the needs of children assigned
  • Assist the classroom teacher following daily plans, working with children, preparing materials, cleaning the room, supervising on the playground, and in keeping with school philosophy
  • Assist in caring for rooms, equipment, and shared space
  • Meet licensing, accreditation and school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as requested

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate: an associate’s or bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Three years of experience working with children is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team, as well as work independently
  • Must be a committed Christian comfortable sharing their faith with children and families
  • Must meet licensing requirements, which includes fingerprinting and an extensive background check

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires sitting, standing, lifting, reaching, and crawling.

OTHER SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Reports to: Age Level Classroom Advisor
  • Position Type: Part time, 2024 – 2025 school year
  • Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 8:45 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. Additional hours for special events required
  • Compensation: $13.00 per hour
  • Benefits: Not benefit eligible
